A Festive Appetizer for Spooky Season
One of my favourite parts about fall is diving into all the cozy, spooky vibes and trying out fun, festive recipes. With Halloween approaching, it’s the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen. And since potatoes are in season (and I managed to snag a bag of yellow potatoes for just $1.77!), I couldn’t resist putting them to good use with this recipe for Ghostly Potato Crisps!
Potatoes are one of the most versatile vegetables around. Not only are they delicious, but they’re also packed with nutrients like potassium, vitamin C, and fibre. They’re a staple in my kitchen year-round, but when they’re in season like they are now, they’re fresher and even more budget-friendly. Plus, you can turn them into just about anything—like these spooky little ghost potatoes!
To bring the spooky recipe to life, I used a cookie cutter to shape the potato slices into ghosts and a straw to make their eyes and mouths. The seasoning mix of paprika, turmeric, salt, pepper, olive oil, and soy sauce gives them a savoury, slightly smoky flavour. Then, I popped them in the air fryer, and within 20 minutes, they were perfectly crispy and golden.
I also whipped up a quick, tasty dip with mayo and ketchup that pairs perfectly with the crispy ghosts. Honestly, these turned out so good...who doesn’t love a spooky (and easy to make) appetizer packed with flavour?
Here’s the ghostly potato crisps recipe so you can try it for yourself:
Ghostly Potato Crisps
Ingredients:
2-3 medium yellow potatoes
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp turmeric
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp soy sauce or liquid aminos
2 tbsp mayo (for the dip)
1 tbsp ketchup (for the dip)
Directions:
Slice your potatoes into about ¼-inch thick slices.
Use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut out ghost shapes from each slice.
Use a resuable straw to poke out two eyes and a mouth for each ghost.
In a bowl, toss the ghost potatoes with paprika, turmeric, salt, pepper, olive oil, and soy sauce.
Place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 15-20 minutes at 390F, shaking the basket halfway through for even crisping.
While the potatoes are cooking, mix 2 tablespoons of mayo with 1 tablespoon of ketchup to make the dip.
Serve your crispy ghost potatoes with the dip and enjoy!
Potatoes are the ultimate fall staple and this recipe is as affordable as it is delicious. So, next time you're looking for a fun, seasonal snack that packs a punch, give these Ghostly Potato Crisps a try. I guarantee they’ll become a spooky season favourite! Enjoy!
