The Tastiest Tofurky Roast

My experience with Tofurky Roast was definitely love at first bite. I came across some opinions of people who didn’t cook the roast properly and felt less than satisfied.


Did you ever try Tofurky (or any vegan roast, really), and it came out just plain bland?


Not to worry, this recipe is foolproof and will give you the tastiest tofurky roast!!

Once you get the prep right, getting your hands on one of these bad boys before they leave the shelves is the only challenge.


Pro tip: purchase out of season.

Whenever I attempted to purchase a roast around a holiday, they were either hiked up in price or out of stock. Purchase after the holiday for the next holiday. That way, you don’t have to worry about searching multiple stores, AND you’re likely to save some money.


 

Tastiest Tofurky Roast

Ingredients:

  • 1 Onion (cut)

  • 2 Carrots (chopped)

  • 2-3 Yellow Potatoes (quartered) you can also use baby potatoes instead

  • 2 cloves Garlic

  • 1 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tbsp Liquid Aminos

  • 1 pinch dried Rosemary

  • 1 pinch dried Thyme

  • 2/3 cup Vegetable Broth

  • 1/2 tsp Liquid Aminos

  • 1 pinch dried Italian Herbs


Directions:

  1. Thaw frozen roast in the fridge overnight before preparing. Once thawed, run Tofurky under warm water and remove the plastic casing from the roast.

  2. Prepare the vegetables by washing (and peeling if wanted). Chop vegetables into chunks (leave garlic as cloves).

  3. Place Tofurky roast in the middle of your slow cooker. Surround with vegetables.

  4. Mix 2/3 cup of Vegetable Broth, 1/2 tsp Liquid Aminos, and Italian Herbs in a bowl. Pour over vegetables and roast.

  5. Mix 1 tbsp Oil, 1 tbsp Liquid Aminos, and a pinch of both Rosemary and Thyme in a bowl. Brush generously over roast, turn over to brush the other side. Save the remainder of the liquid for later.

  6. Cover the roast and vegetables. Slow cook on HIGH for 1.5 hours. After 1.5 hours, turn the roast over and brush with the remainder of the oil, liquid aminos, and herb mixture. Cover and continue to cook on high for another hour and 30 minutes.

  7. After 3 hours of cooking, remove the roast from slow cooker, slice, and enjoy.


**If you have more time, you could also cook on low for 7 hours**


 

I usually smother the roast and veggies in vegan gravy (because I looove gravy), but it is not necessary. You can even pour the excess liquid from the slow cooker onto the roast or eat it as it is.


Another unnecessary but VERY delicious step is to remove the veggies (or just the potatoes) from the slow cooker and fry in some vegan butter, herbs, and about two tablespoons of broth from the slow cooker on a frying pan for a few minutes to brown before eating. This makes the potatoes even more delicious in my opinion. This dish also goes really well with mashed potatoes, rice, or MORE VEGGIES!
